Noted by prominent scholars since 1930, the intricately designed and constructed fine silk on fine silk foundation contains 17 colors and is a magnificent example of fine Safavid art of the 16^th century.  Originally catalogued at Kashan, current opinion considers it to be of Isfahan origin. Purchased by an anonymous party, the rug’s cost was $730 per square inch.
