Noted by prominent scholars since 1930, the intricately designed and constructed fine silk on fine silk foundation contains 17 colors and is a magnificent example of fine Safavid art of the 16th century.  Originally catalogued at Kashan, current opinion considers it to be of Isfahan origin. Purchased by an anonymous party, the rug’s cost was $730 per square inch.
