Rug Spotlight - Russian

Russian rugs are mostly antiques,  are very desirable, and are usually sized under 7 x 10.  Russian rugs, also called Caucasian rugs, are made in the Caucasus Mountain area around the Caspian Sea.  These rugs are of good quality and are wool with differing knots per square inch in mainly primary colors.

This fine specimen exhibits the quality of wool hue variation called abrash.  It is usually a feature of nomadic tribal rugs resulting from dyeing small batches that can be used at that time, as the tribe traveled from pasture to pasture.
